Currently, I am studying hydrologic fluxes associated with agricultural lands. A significant portion of freshwater withdrawals go to irrigation and production of the food we eat. This makes understanding the whole farm system even more important, including the social dynamics and farm management. I am using the process-based crop model EPIC to simulate hydrology and agriculture in the Treasure Valley of southwest Idaho.
More broadly, I am interested in studying the interactions between humans and their environment. Understanding the coevolution and feedbacks between social and natural systems is crucial when thinking about the future of our water, land, and air.
