Create a meaningful opportunity for your Work U student. It all starts with a solid foundation.
The best opportunities provide professional immersion and prepare students for the work they hope to do after graduating from college.
Students accepted into Work U are matched with an opportunity based on their interests and goals and don’t need to possess any prior experience or specific skills. They work about 10 hours per week with a mentor from your organization and participate in classroom activities where we provide coaching and professional development.
WHAT STUDENTS ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Real work assignments (not making coffee and photocopies)
- A mentor
- To be included
- A work station
WHAT MAKES A GOOD OPPORTUNITY?
A successful Work U opportunity has a mix of “I know how to do this” and “I am learning new skills” that allows students to develop specific resume-building skills.
It’s important that each opportunity is open to students from a variety of academic majors. We’ve found that employers receive the most interest when they focus on the skills and traits they are seeking in applicants and not on specific majors.
- Use a descriptive title
- Describe what the student will do for your organization
- What will student learn and be exposed to
